Physical Contact

At Daffodil WLC, as a registered provider with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), and following regulations, we deeply respect and acknowledge the individual needs and preferences of each child in our care.

We understand that children may express affection in various ways, some through hugs, kisses, or other physical gestures, while others may not feel as inclined towards physical affection. Therefore, we are committed to showing affection in ways that are comfortable for both the child and their parents. This may include hugs, kisses on the head or cheek, holding hands, cuddling, or gentle tickling. Importantly, we never impose physical affection on a child if it makes them feel uncomfortable.

In situations where it is necessary to restrain a child, particularly if they pose a risk of harm to themselves or others, such as attempting to run into the road, we will handle the situation with care. We document such incidents meticulously in our incident book and seek the parent's signature to ensure transparency and accountability. Additionally, we intervene to separate children involved in physical altercations to maintain a safe environment for all.

We also understand that some level of physical contact may be needed for hygiene routines, such as washing hands and faces or wiping noses. We are fully prepared to assist children with toileting according to their age and ability, including changing nappies if required. In the event of accidents, we promptly change a child's clothes to ensure their comfort.

At Daffodil WLC, our top priority is the well-being and comfort of every child in our care. We strive to create a nurturing environment that respects each child's boundaries and preferences.
