Alcohol and Illegal Substances

At Daffodil WLC, and as dedicated childminders, our paramount responsibility is to safeguard the well-being of all children under our care, ensuring their needs are met and responding promptly to any concerns, risks, or dangers that may arise. To uphold this commitment, we maintain strict guidelines regarding the consumption of alcohol, medication usage, and vigilance against substance abuse.

Alcohol and Substance Use:

Neither we nor any individual interacting with the children in our care will be under the influence of alcohol or any substances that may impair our ability to provide proper care. Similarly, if anyone involved in childcare is taking medication that could affect their capacity to care for children, they must seek medical advice. Only when confirmed that their ability to supervise children is unimpaired will they engage in direct childcare responsibilities. Furthermore, if prescribed medication, excluding routine antibiotics, is being taken, notification to the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) is mandatory, with CIW deciding on continued childminding.

Parental Alcohol Consumption:

If parents have consumed alcohol while their children are under our care, we will advise them to arrange for a responsible individual to collect the child, particularly if driving is involved. Alternatively, parents may contact us to discuss the possibility of a delayed pickup if feasible.

Child Protection:

Given the increased availability of drugs and alcohol to young children, we always remain vigilant. Any concerns regarding a child's involvement with substances will be promptly discussed with the parents. While we collaborate with parents to address issues affecting children, we reserve the right to terminate the contract immediately if we perceive a risk to other children under our care.
