Health and Safety

At Daffodil WLC, safeguarding the health and safety of all children and individuals under our care is paramount. To uphold this commitment, we have instituted the following measures to ensure a secure and hazard-free environment:

Regular Toy Inspection: We conduct regular inspections and cleaning of toys to guarantee their safety. Any damaged or unsafe toys are promptly removed, and age-appropriate toys are provided to children according to their developmental stage.

Daily Safety Checks: Each morning before the children arrive, we perform a thorough risk assessment and health and safety inspection of our premises, encompassing the safety of all individuals present, including children, parents, visitors, and our own family members.

Socket Covers: Unused plug sockets are fitted with covers to prevent accidents.

Equipment Safety: Our equipment undergoes regular checks and cleaning, with appropriate safety measures such as harnesses fitted where necessary, notably on highchairs and pushchairs.

Car Safety: We ensure that car seats are regularly inspected for correct fitting, and we do not utilise second-hand car seats due to their unknown history. Our vehicles undergo regular servicing, MOT checks, and are adequately insured, with safety locks installed on rear doors.

Safety Gates and Locks: Safety gates are employed and routinely inspected to restrict access to potentially hazardous areas. Keys to the front door are kept out of reach to prevent children from opening the door to strangers.

Fire Safety Measures: We have established fire procedures (refer to separate policy).

Hygiene Standards: We strictly adhere to hygiene guidelines, including proper food storage and maintenance of fridge temperatures. Waste is promptly disposed of, and used nappies are double-wrapped and placed in designated waste bins.

No Smoking Policy: We have established a no smoking policy (refer to seperate policy).

Child Protection Guidelines: Rigorous child protection protocols are in place (refer to separate policy).

Supervision and Monitoring: Children are under constant supervision, including sleeping children who are regularly monitored. We employ a baby monitor as an additional precaution.

Encouraging Safety Education: We collaborate with parents to educate children on safety issues such as road safety and stranger awareness, while also promoting healthy dietary choices and physical activity.

Communication and Contact: Emergency contact details are readily available, and we foster open communication with parents.

Discouraging Secrets: Children are encouraged to avoid keeping secrets, fostering an environment of openness and transparency.

By adhering to these procedures, we strive to cultivate a safe and nurturing environment at Daffodil Day Care, where children can flourish and develop, with their well-being and safety as our top priority.
