Aligned with the principles of the new Curriculum for Wales, our childcare approach underscores the importance of observing and responding effectively to children's needs and progress. We firmly believe that by meticulously observing and assessing each child's achievements, interests, and learning styles, we can provide tailored support to nurture their holistic development. Our procedure embraces the following key principles:
Systematic Observations and Assessments
We conduct regular and systematic observations of each child, taking into consideration their individual achievements, interests, and preferred learning styles. These observations form the basis of our assessment process.
Identification of Learning Priorities
Drawing insights from our observations and assessments, we identify learning priorities for each child. These priorities inform our planning of relevant and engaging learning experiences that cater to their unique needs and interests.
Alignment with Curriculum Objectives
Our observations are closely aligned with the objectives outlined in the new Curriculum for Wales. This ensures that we track each child's progress towards achieving the four purposes of the curriculum.
Depending on the child's age and developmental stage, we utilise either the Developmental Milestones or the Progression Steps outlined in the Curriculum for Wales to inform our practice.
We employ a variety of mediums for conducting observations, including checklists, tracker books, photographs, written observations, and video recordings. This diverse range of methods allows us to capture different facets of each child's development and progress.
Sharing with Parents
Recognising the vital role of parents in their child's learning journey, we regularly share all observations, assessments, and planning documents with parents. Parents are encouraged to provide feedback and insights, fostering a collaborative approach to supporting each child's development.
Confidentiality
We uphold strict confidentiality regarding all observations and assessments. Written consent from each parent is obtained before conducting and recording observations on their child. This ensures that all information remains confidential and is used solely to support the child's development.
By adhering to this procedure, we aim to create an enriching environment where each child receives personalised support and guidance to realise their full potential within the framework of the new Curriculum for Wales.
