The purpose of this policy is to ensure the safe and enjoyable practice of face painting within Daffodil WLC. This policy outlines the procedures and guidelines to be followed by staff to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety, and to ensure a positive experience for all children. This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, and children involved in face painting activities at Daffodil WLC.
General Guidelines
Parental Consent: Written consent must be obtained from parents or guardians before any face painting activity. Parents should be informed of the products used and any potential risks.
Qualified Staff: Only staff who have received appropriate training in face painting and hygiene practices are permitted to conduct face painting activities.
Product Safety: Only high-quality, non-toxic, hypoallergenic face paints and products specifically designed for use on children’s skin shall be used. All products must meet relevant safety standards.
Skin Sensitivity: Prior to face painting, staff must check for any known allergies or skin sensitivities. A patch test may be conducted on the child’s arm to ensure no adverse reactions.
Hygiene Practices: Hands must be thoroughly washed and sanitised before and after face painting.
Clean sponges, brushes, and applicators must be used for each child.
Face painting equipment should be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
Water used for rinsing brushes must be changed frequently.
Health and Safety: Face painting will not be conducted on children with visible skin conditions, rashes, or infections.
Children with cuts, abrasions, or sunburn on their faces should not participate in face painting.
Face painting should be avoided around the eyes and lips to prevent potential irritation.
Environment: Face painting should be conducted in a clean, well-lit area with appropriate seating for both the child and the face painter.
Designs: Simple, age-appropriate designs should be used. Children should be given a choice of designs and colours.
Emergency Procedures: In case of an adverse reaction, face paint must be removed immediately with mild soap and water.
Parents or guardians must be informed of any incidents or reactions.
Record Keeping: A record of face painting activities, including consent forms, details of products used, and any incidents, should be maintained and kept on file.
Review: This policy will be reviewed annually or as needed to ensure compliance with the latest health and safety guidelines.
